I always imagined there'd be a chapter that takes place in an urban setting over run with nature, or whatever you call the crazy trees and mushrooms. The plague? Whatever. I jokingly refer to this city as Daar Quud.

I disagree, Alpha 3 has been the worst so far, though it isn't terribad in any regard. The whole shadow mechanic is boring, ruins nighttime immersion, and doesn't even succeed at the intended goal since you can just camp in the light of the oven at night without ever needing to use the generator at ...

I don't like the Shadows mechanic either, though I'm not too sure why you're having so much trouble keeping your generator fueled. So it's officially been a month and a bit into a week, how is progress? Although I don't want to entertain the notion of another promising kick starter failing to hit the ground running but if that is the case then it's best to get that knowledge out before people show up at your door with pitchfor...

When a gun's icon is red like an empty gas can or a broken melee weapon, you equip it and press R to reload it from the correct caliber item in your inventory. Be careful though, if you reload before it's completely empty, the bullets left over will vanish.

While I don't exactly agree with the idea of shoving, if the enemy is shoved the right distance away, it wouldn't be possible for the player to land a melee attack in the time it would take to close the gap, as the enemy would already be able to retaliate.
