Stranger

Post by Raven » Fri May 10, 2013 11:21 am

The interesting part of the game would be to add a 'stranger'. This is a person or a 'something' that could occur in different parts of the game, but never interact with the player. Object visible enough to catch the attention of the player, but dark enough to scare him. Somewhere on the edge of the screen could be a foreign observer. Attempting to contact with a stranger would be impossible.

Would he be good or bad? Everything would depend on the human imagination and interpretation of events.

Cool! Messing with the player's head is something we would like to do pretty often and the top-down perspective is perfect for this. We got some really neat ideas to achieve this, but never thought of a Stranger like you said - at least not in physical form, as we hope to give the feeling like something IS watching you all the time ;)

A figure watching from a window.

A slow knocking on your door with nobody present when you check.

Stuff that you place on the ground has moved to another room when you return to check on it?

You could add so many subtle things to mess with a player's head. Bonus points if they notice something is wrong, but it's subtle enough that they aren't quite sure it happened.

I registered on this forum to make this very suggestion, actually.

I've always been a fan of having a rare to show up "unknown" character that's only found not only rarely but also only if you are leaving your comfort zone. He could be hostile or neutral (rarely friendly), but be involved in some sort of gameplay element. As for who he is, his identity and purpose is only slowly revealed as you gain clues about what or who he is (and that might take several playthroughs).

It's a nice little optional mystery to figure out that isn't mandatory in the game. It's sort of like "finding Noob Saibot" in Mortal Kombat...which was a sort of easter egg villian you could face, and you could only face him if certain prerequisites were followed. Part of the fun was spotting in hiding in the background and trying to figure out how to find him as those prerequisites were completely unknown. You'd spot him, you'd know he existed, but you didn't know who he was or how to find him. Now, MK had sort of a lame way on how to find him (it was just a fighting game so there wasn't much gameplay outside of button mashing), but with a game like this, you could do a lot of different things, such as finding written lore, footprints, rumors, and so on.

Please, dear mother of all good horror games, no. I would much rather a creature that I knew absolutely nothing about - zilch, nada. The problem with Slender, I find, is that everyone just knows too much about Slender. This is to a point where the word Slender makes us more or less laugh, because we remember PewDiePie (and others) overreacting to something which is not very scary at all. If there was to be a stranger I would like said stranger to be someone (or something) that is to be feared, something that always makes you think, and something that always makes you go out of your comfort zone to understand.

Thanks
Wolfie

I do agree with Wolfie and Guru on this one.

Definitely a no-no. The creature is over exposed as a fledgling pop star at this point.

Even if it were considered by the dev's they simply cannot.

Victor Surge has sold the creative rights to Slenderman to an outside source, as such, many fan based products containing the newly trademarked Slenderman have been issued Cease and Desist orders to remove the character from movies and games. Including it would be detrimental to the Dev's and their game even if they wanted to.

Iv'e seen many a thread which talks about copyrights and trademarks devolve into bickering and arguing over the legal technicalities involved with intellectual properties so please don't go there, or at least keep it civil...

This is true. The reason Faceless never got Green Steamlit (despite having enough votes for it) was because of legal issues with the "new owner" refusing to communicate. It's out of Victor Surge's hand, now. It's best to go with something fresh and new.
