Keeping a spare "finishing" melee weapon is more efficient because of additional attack skill, reliability with proper skill and capability to replace your main melee weapon. It's a toy, something that requires tremendous effort to build and supply with little pay off besides satisfaction.

I'm actually waiting for the pellet rifle for sniping small game like rabbits or bugs

Maybe that's what the pellet gun is for? I can never see myself hunting game (bugs and rabbits) with a melee weapon without it being inefficient and I'm pretty sure the health pool of game is low enough that they will die to a few shots from the pellet gun-yielding meat for XP if the player has spare time in the day and wants levels and has no other options in the day.

Meh...i run out of improvised weaponry so i am starting to add weapons i would like to see.

Also i have one more suggestion wich is not related to weapons.
I would like to see camera like this (dont mind the fading) :

It would add possibility of compass navigation and would nicely support landmark orientation like it is now.

1) Tazer - Use batteries to reload. Obviously wouldn't kill something, but would give time to run.
2) Gun bayonet, - Gun mod, second attack with gun slashes.
3) Homemade shotgun - single shot, requires cleaning?
4) Homemade rifle - single shot, requires cleaning?
5) Chainsaw - Gas to reload? Super load and attracts things to you?
6) Teeth Sword / Chomper ?Mandible? Ax - Teeth from dog/Chomper Mandible plus wood/junk
7) Throw glass bottle, small damage plus stun.
8) Flare-gun - Single shot, requires flares, lights fires ??
9) Pneumatic Pistol - Hand pumped air gun, shoots pellets.
10) Slingshot - Fires rocks/pellets
11) Those damn rocks that the savages throw at you. Be able to find some when you kill them or just wherever.

also i like the idea of home made weapons but they should degrade after about 5 shots or something, same with bows and other craftmanship weapons, because realisticly you are no bowsmith or weaponsmith for that matter
