Alpha 3.0 Strange Spawning/Bad framerate on world generation

1. Strange Spawning
I've experienced a bug during normal gameplay that spawns me in a random location inside a biome that I haven't unlocked after dying.

2. Bad framerate on world generation
I've also experienced a minor bug (can be avoided) nearly every time I've generated a new map that starts the game with an unplayable framerate, yet a few maps that were generated afterward are unaffected.

Alpha version: 3.0

Bug description, with steps to reproduce: ( a longer description of what happened )

1. After dying in the game, the player was spawned inside a biome other than the biome in which my first hideout was located. I only had access to the Meadow at the time and had not yet unlocked the door in the Cottage that lead to the Forest biome, yet my character spawned in a random area within the Forest after death. This bug has only occurred once, and several new maps in which I died several times did not replicate the bug.

2. Out of many new files I've created, most of them have begun a new world with a very jarring framerate that makes the game very difficult to play and enjoy. At least 5 maps generated that were affected allowed the prologue to be skipped, and at least 3 new files created that were not affected were generated without allowing the prologue to be skipped. Not skipping the prologue seems to be the only detail I've noticed that might be related to the bug, as restarting my computer and reloading an affected file did not fix it.

Have you loaded a game before encountering this bug? : Yes, there was at least one new file that was created that was not affected by either bug described, and was still not affected after loading the game after quitting.

You can easily avoid the first bug; just don't die :D

Just kidding. I'm sure that this bug could easily break your progression because if you die and spawn in a region you couldn't access before, that could possibly block you off from going other regions (for instance, if you died in region A and you were spawned in region B, if the path from A to B requires some key item you can only gain in region A then you're out of luck.

This is a really nasty one.

The second bug you describe is something that's gonna require a lot of coding love, which should only happen a bit further down the line when the Wizards get down to code optimization. Nonetheless, it interesting that the bug seems to happen more if you don't skip the prologue. That alone should lead the Wizards to find what's wrong.

Welcome to the forums :)

What's strange about the first bug is that I haven't encountered it more than once. Really though, the most unfortunate implication of such a weird bug is that the game basically forces you to die a second time, unless you manage to find a bucket AND the second Hideout in the Forest, which is very unlikely, and that could either be a mild annoyance or it could tank your file and frustrate you depending on what you were carrying at the time.

The second bug is really not that big of a problem, it either took a system restart or simply generating a new map, and I myself create new maps almost constantly.

Funnily enough, I've been playing on a single file for several hours now, and I think there may be another bug dealing with the power generators perk. It seems that ever since I selected that perk, all the generators powering the lights in every Hideout has infinite fuel. I've even died, spawned in another biome, and then trekked all the way back to a Hideout across the map with an activated generator, and it was still running, and it even had a full fuel bar.

I've come across plenty of bugs through the first two Alpha stages of the game and made some comments on the Steam news pages, but I guess I decided that posting on the forum would be a little more convenient.

Honestly, I'm just happy to play the game, and if I can help highlight some silly bugs, that's pretty cool too.

I haven't even thought about this possibility, and you're totally right. If you die and can't make your way to where you'd find a bucket you're basically dead at that point. This one is easily the nastiest bug of this batch, and if it isn't easily reproducible then the Wizards have to dig up that code...

This one might be related with balance of the perk and the default fuel consumption rate which has been nerfed (generators consume less fuel). Maybe the Wizards overdid it, to the point where the generators end up not using up any fuel?
Anyway, you should probably make a new thread, so the Wizards can easily pick up on the new found bug to include this last bug, and if possible maybe attach your save files. You can find that on your Steam folder in "[...]\Steam\userdata\[userID]\274520\remote". In there you should see files like profs.dat and a few folders named prof#. Just pack everything in a zip file and try to attach it in the topic, but if the file is too big upload it to a filehost like https://mega.co.nz/ and share the link.

A lot of people doesn't realize how game development and consumer feedback works yet, sadly; some people would just play the game and not make bug submissions to the forums or the Steam bug report board, and some of those would probably take it to the Steam discussion board and make a generic thread saying they didn't like the game because it is too buggy for their liking, without describing the details about those bugs.

Detailed consumer feedback is really important to the devs (and by extension, us the consumer), because that's the only way they can tell if something is wrong and then proceed to fix it to make their game more enjoyable.

So Kudos to you for helping the Wizards make Darkwood a better game.

No need, I read through all of these and we're aware of this bug, but won't be able to fix it anytime soon because of the holidays. So Have fun exploiting it while it lasts :P
