S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Something about the aesthetic design in this game reminds me of some of the 3D elements of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, but mostly the static images used during cutscenes or on the title screens. It has this weird quality of looking almost realistic, and yet also stylistic.

Of course, Darkwood definitely takes its pseudo-realism further into the realms of dark fantasy and horror with the strange monster designs and the mutated foliage, but both have a similar gritty quality.

Also, the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games are survival horror games that encourages free exploration in order to progress through the world and story, as well as soak in the atmosphere and get spooked by ugly stuff.
