For dealing with it atm unlock third eye and turn up gamma to max it definitely helps, but I have to agree with your very valid point.

I know what you mean there would have to be a fine line not to mix up effects with monsters. I think there could be a lot of different things done in this area that could add to the atmospheric creep thats happening in this game.
